I can’t say it enough, what a fuckup
Biden didn’t evacuate Americans and Afghans who assisted America earlier because that would have indicated that America was serious about leaving which he believed would have depressed the will of ANDSF to fight that much more. Biden cancelled Trump’s evacuation plan in an effort to restore the will of ANDSF to fight. It didn’t work and now Biden has an 11th hour evacuation mess on his hands at Kabul airport.
Yes, it was a bluff to scare Ghani, the obstruction to peace talks, into stepping away, but after all the assurances Pelosi and Biden gave Ghani that they’d have his back after the election, this bluff no longer had teeth. Biden knew he fucked up but still wanted out so decided to hide behind the bluff while letting the ANDSF and the Taliban have a war, funding it at $4 billion a year for 4 years. The ANDSF was foolishly expected to come out on top.
