Ghani released a letter wherein he continues to lie to avoid responsibility. No, Kabul wasn’t threatened had Ghani remained, quite the opposite, he put Kabul in jeopardy by leaving abruptly.
Ghani knew both Biden and the Taliban expected him to remain in Kabul so that a responsible transfer of power could take place. After Ghani took off, Taliban leadership and Biden’s people had a panicked phone call to figure out what to do next about Kabul.
I don’t fault him for leaving, in fact I might have done the same as a big fat middle finger to both Biden, whose people lied to him about reassurances and commitment of support offered prior to the election, and the Taliban, no friends of his. No need to lie about it.
Since the first paragraph starts off with lies, the rest isn’t worth commenting on either, though I will say, bombing people into compliance and picking up the leftovers at night hardly counts as democratic.
