The Kurds established themselves over Northern Syria with support from Trump during the Syrian Civil war. Obama, the founder of ISIS, and his vice president Sleepy Joe had refused to support the Kurds then because they didn’t want to upset Turkey, their NATO ally, and had instead invested their hopes and dreams into ISIS in their #AssadMustGo effort to remove Assad from power.
Trump didn’t care about removing Assad or about how Turkey felt, intended to wreck Obama’s ISIS team, built up the Kurds into his fighting force in Syria instead, and used them to do it. Turkey was upset and rattled sabers, but little came of it.
Trump is no longer the president, and Biden was outmatched in both Israel v. Palestine and Taliban v. Ghani conflicts. Given that Biden’s prior position on the Kurds was to look the other way out of fear of angering the Turks, I wonder what he’ll do this time.
I said then, when Assad and Russia asked the Kurds to join their team and they refused, the Kurds made a mistake sticking with the US.
