NSA Hamdullah Mohib confirmed what I’ve been saying, the Ghani government was not serious about coming to a peaceful settlement with the Taliban because they gambled that they could entrap the US into not leaving once the US saw how dire the situation was.
In fairness to Mohib, even though he deserves none, the entire National Security Establishment, including Washington, NATO, National Security elements of the Republican party and the Democrats, including Pelosi and Biden, encouraged the government to stall the peace process, to run out the clock, so that when Biden won the election, he could end the peace process and remain in Afghanistan in some capacity to push the Taliban back, restoring and maintaining the status quo.
In the end, it didn’t work out for numerous reasons, pride among them, and Biden chose to leave, betraying Mohib, Ghani, and the Afghan government. Too bad.
