Iraqi deaths are back down to whatever passes as “normal” in Iraq.

The spike in violence in 2017 was attributable to the elimination of ISIS which had been allowed (and financed via Syrian rebels) to spread throughout Iraq (due to the U.S. unwillingness to aid Iraq while it was in a coalition with Iran and Russia) between 2013-2016, taking major cities like Mosul in the process and itself causing many deaths.

The significance is that the last “normal” period took place with U.S. troops on the ground maintaining the peace and prior to the creation of ISIS. The current “normal” is sustained by Iraqi forces with some U.S. air power (with the U.S. finally overlooking that they are partnered with Iran and Russia) as the U.S. still considers themselves their “partner”.

Iraq has been receiving T-90S main battle tanks from Russia.
